Wieliczka Salt Mine - located some 30 km south from the center of Krakow - is the oldest of its kind in Poland. Salt has been excavated here from the beginning of the thirteenth century. The old part of the mine - which consists of 2040 vast salt caves and nearly 200km of corridors - is a museum now.
