THE PLACE Wolf Watch UK is a private membership, Wolf rescue group that began life as a hobby and evolved into the self-funding, not-for-profit organisation it is today. Access to the project is strictly via our Adopt-a-Wolf membership or approved conservation groups with permission to bring visiting parties during pre-arranged days. The primary function of Wolf Watch UK is as a rescue centre for displaced Wolves. The rehoming of Wolves can occur through incidents such as dominance fights, pack rejection or where it is no longer viable to keep an animal in the same pack; excess breeding; zoo closures and sometimes instances of neglect. Our priority the resident Wolves we care for and the environments we protect them in.
INFORMATION We consider Membership to this project and access to our Wolves as a privilege and any contact or observation with the resident animals is entirely at their discretion. Our Wolf Centre is not a zoo and is not open to the public, it is a refuge and sanctuary for our Wolves whom we and are membership are privileged to share some wonderful times. We do not approve of tranquilised animals, dragged about on leads around fields, fairs or events in a blatant financial exercise for human beings making money by exploiting an endangered species. The best thing to actually meeting our Wolves at the Centre is seeing them via our various clips in the Wolf video section. Taken around our forests, lake and hills they capture our Wolves at the Centre itself. These video sequences fulfil a key part of our policy to minimise impact and disturbance whilst enabling the widest possible audience to experience the thrill of our Wolves.
Organisation / DESCRIPTIONS UK Wolf Conservation Trust (UKWCT)
The UKWCT works to keep wolves in the wild, especially throughout Europe. Focusing on education and communication, the UKWCT is part of an international network, and works in partnership with government departments, academic institutions and NGOs (non government organisations) on wild wolf projects. The UKWCT centre is based in Reading, and is home to nine ambassador wolves who help to educate and raise awareness about wolves and their conservation. The UKWCT is a member based organisation, but school and community groups can visit the centre to participate in the education activities and programmes organised. Student placements are also available, and the UKWCT has links with agricuture, biology and veterinary faculties and colleges.
