Blackpool Stanley Park is only two miles from the sea front is the beautiful Stanley Park. This park offers a wide range of activities to ensure a great day out. Covering nearly 256 acres, with several gates for access the park boast beautifully decorative buildings and flower displays. Originally opened in 1926 this purpose designed park is the largest of its kind in the whole country, with a clever layout to provide an everchanging view of the park.

The park was opened in 1926 and the magnificent North End ornamental gates stand proud as a reminder of the day when Lord Derby (family name Stanley) declared the park open to the public.

The site of Stanley Park was once a large windswept area that was part shanty town and part agricultural wasteland. Despite thousands of applications to acquire the land to build houses the Council deemed the erection of the Park to be a more essential element in Blackpool's growth, providing a stark contrast between the entertainment filled, lively town and the tranquil setting of the park.

Features

Lake
The lake in the park covers around 27 acres and was purpose built for scenic quality and recreational use. It is one of the biggest park lakes in Britain. The lake has an average depth of almost 2 metres, with two bridges to make access possible for all sides of the park.

Boating and Fishing
There are several types of boats available for hire such as rowboats, paddleboats and motorboats. There is also year-round fishing allowed at the lake.

Clock Tower
A memorial to Blackpool's first Mayor, Dr William Cocker, the Clock Tower stands an impressive 26 meters tall with a clock face of over 2 metres.. There are beautiful drinking fountains between two bronze lion heads to provide refreshments at the foot of the clock.

Italian Gardens
In the heart on Stanley Park are the beautiful Italian Gardens. This circular garden has a wide path running around the perimeter flanked by amazing lawns, flower beds, a beautiful fountain and many sculptured features in Italian style. The Italian Gardens is the meeting place of Stanley Park, where all routes in the park meet.

Activities
There is tennis and golf for the more energetic. Have a go on the putting green or knock around some balls on the crazy golf. There is a sports stadium, a new roller blading area, children's play area and even table tennis.
For those among us who are looking for a lazy day out in the park you can take a stroll by the lake or visit the beautiful rose gardens. Visit the temperature zones and view the beautiful tropical flowers. You can even enjoy a picnic by the lake or any area of the park.

There are a wide variety of snack shops and cafes through the park so you won't go hungry or thirsty on your trip. The meticulously kept Stanley Park café has spectacular views of the Italian gardens and the Golf Course. A perfect way to relax.
