Spain, Playa de Palma

The resort known as Playa de Palma refers to the 6km long stretch of Majorca's central south coast running from C'an Pastilla in the west, around the Bay of Palma, to the resort of El Arenal in the east.

Palma, the island's capital, has a population of approximately 320.000. It stretches some 15 km along the coastline, from El Arenal and Palma beach in the east as far as the cosmopolitan districts of Cala Mayor and San Agustin in the west.

Most of the major buildings and monuments were constructed during the "Golden Age," between 1276 and 1344 under the rule of the Kingdom of Aragon.
 
 Among the most impressive is the graceful Gothic Cathedral, which was commissioned by King Jaime I of Aragon in 1230.

Most of the main sights are located within this area bounded by the old walls: 
 
old Arab quarter with its maze of narrow streets hiding palaces and courtyards,
Palacio de Almudaina, where the Christian kings had their residence, and
La Lonja, the old trade centre now converted into an exhibition centre.

The modern Palma has a wide range of exquisite restaurants, cafeterias, pubs, concert halls, discotheques, a bull-ring, and all types of shows, offering the visitor entertainment and amusement at all times. 
 
Palma also offers splendid gardens with fountains and el Paseo Marítimo, the wide, paved promenade, with its impressive palm trees, which runs along the whole bay.
