The Prague City Museum houses historical artefacts, documents, weapons and maps documenting the history of Prague from early archaeological finds to the 18th century.
The museum was built between 1896 and 1898 is devoted to the history of Prague from the prehistoric times to present. It includes Langweil's three-dimensional model of Prague from the first half of the 19th century, made from paper and wood and measuring about 20 square meters.
One of the highlights is the huge cardboard model of the city created between 1826-1834 by Antonin Langweil, a servant at the National Museum. The detail is amazing, even down to the colour of the doorways and the design of the windowsills.
A striking conclusion to the visit is that for many centuries now, Prague's historical city centre has altered so little.
