Palais de Rohan

About
Situated on the ground floor of the Palais Rohan, former residence of the prince-bishops, built between 1732 and 1742 by Robert de Cotte, Principal Architect to the King, the museum is in two sections: firstly, the sumptuous apartments of the Cardinals de Rohan and secondly the collections of decorative arts from Strasbourg of the period from 1681 to the mid-19th century (the world famous Hannong ceramics, furniture, sculpture and paintings, clocks, iron, gold and silver work).

The Collections
A visit to the Musée des Arts décoratifs begins with the historic apartments of the Palais Rohan, namely the apartments of the King and the Prince Bishop, exceptional testimony to the life enjoyed by princes under the monarchy. It continues, in the wing which once housed the stables, with the rooms containing the collections of decorative art, focused mainly on the history of applied art in Strasbourg during the 18th century.
