Museo Regional de Prehistoria y Arqueologia de Cantabria

This museum was built in 1934 and declared a monument of cultural importance in 1962. Among the many interesting exhibits are displays about the Paleolithic era, which chart the first settlements in the region. The museum's collection of artifacts from the Upper Paleolithic age are rated amongst the best in the world. Some of the most outstanding pieces dating from the Iron Age are the gigantic stone monoliths from Zurita and Lombera. Notable Roman remains include those discovered in Julióbriga and Castro Urdiales. Many of the most important prehistoric remains in Spain have been excavated in Cantabria, making this museum unmissable for anyone interested in archaeology and early Cantabrian history.
