About
Born in 1788, Esprit Requien takes the load of the Calvet museum in 1849. Naturalist in the heart, this eminent botanist, paleontologist and malacologist, constitutes an important collection of reference which it bequeaths in 1840 to the administration of the Calvet museum: the museum of natural history of Avignon was born and takes the name of its founder.

The collections of the Requien museum constantly grew rich since the end by last century by many legacies by amateurs and regional scientists, but also thanks to the activities of research of the establishment. Among most remarkable, let us quote the herbaria of Requien, Loiseleur Deslongchamps and Jean Henri Fabre, the series of ammonites of the average Cretaceous of Bulot, carabes of Pélissier, the fossil brown bears coming from the Ventoux Mount.
