The Musée Grobet-Labadié in Marseille houses an impressive display of accumulated wealth - furniture, porcelain and fine arts jostle for space.

The museum, donated to the city of Marseille earlier this century, is the former family house of the Grobet-Labadié clan. Wealthy merchants and businessmen, the family accumulated a treasure-trove of objects which demonstrate the good taste and artistic awareness of the French upper middle class in the 19th century.

Antique furniture from Europe's finest makers supports porcelain from France, Germany and China. A vast collection of drawings and sketches includes the signatures of Watteau, Ingres, Fragonard and Delacroix.
