History --------- Formerly farmland, both arable and pasture, Milton Country Park owes much of its present appearance to the extraction of sand and gravel for the building of roads and houses from 1930 to 1960. However, the first material taken from the site was clay, in much smaller quantities, by Romano British potters about 1800 years previously.
When sand and gravel extraction ceased around 1960, the site became overgrown with thick hawthorn and willow scrub and entered a period of neglect and misuse that ended in 1990 when work started on the Country Park. This work continued until 1993, the year the Park opened to the public.
Wildlife ---------- A mixture of woodland, grass and water areas within the Park ensures that there is always a wide variety of wildlife present, from towering Willows to dancing butterflies, summer warblers to wintering ducks. You may take away the memory of a Muntjac Deer browsing among brambles or a Kingfisher skimming low over the water. There is always something to make your visit more enjoyable and persuade you to come again.
The Visitors' Centre -------------------------- Close to the Car Park and with superb views over Todd's Lake, the visitor centre is the ideal starting point for your park visit. Inside the centre can be found displays, leaflets and information covering the park and the countryside in general. Park souvenirs are available at the Ranger's reception desk. There is also a small kiosk offering a range of refreshments. The Visitors Centre opening times vary with season and weather. The Country Park Rangers based in the Visitor Centre, organise activities for schools, children and volunteers either outdoors in the park or in the centre itself. If you have any questions or require any assistance please talk to the Rangers who are always ready to help you.
The Sensory Garden --------------------------- At 5pm on Wednesday 21st May 1997 the Sensory Garden was formally opened to the public by Philip Mann of Radio Cambridgeshire in the presence of Councillor Alan Wyatt (Vice-chairman of South Cambridgeshire District Council), many of the sponsors of the project and members of the Friends. The garden is located next to the Visitors Centre. It has a wide variety of plants which were selected for aroma and texture and were donated by Ansells Garden Centre, Lowland Nursery and M Dickerson Ltd. These plants include Buddleia, Cornus, Choysia, Mint, Sedum, Lavender, Sage and Thyme.
Directions:
The park is open at all times to pedestrians. The car park is open every day except Christmas Day, from 8:00am. Closing times vary throughout the year, but can be found on display in the car park.

By car: You get to the Milton Country Park car park from the small roundabout (also the entrance to Tesco's) at the Cambridge end of Milton village. Follow the signs from there.
Milton village is best reached by following the Milton Road (surprise surprise) to the A14 roundabout and taking the third exit - the Cambridge Road.

By bus: Cambus services 19 and 19A regularly stop and pick up 500 yards (450 metres) from the Visitor Centre, Monday to Saturday only. A restricted service operates on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

If it's a drink you fancy make your way out of the car park and turn right at the roundabout. There are pubs on the main road some way into Milton - the White Horse is the nearest. Or you could go shopping at Tesco's.
