Killaha Tower

This ruin was once the powerhouse of the O'Donoghue's of the Glens who were well known for their wild lifestyle. The tower dates from the 11th century when the family first arrived in the area. The most famous O'Donoghue of the Glens was Seafraidh (Geoffery) who lived from 1620 to 1677. Although Seafraidh, his father, and two brothers were at the siege of Tralee Castle in 1641, Cromwell did not feel it was worth venturing into the wilds to punish them. Seafraidh was able to live out his life writing poetry and throwing incredible parties. His verse detailing the amusements held in the castle was very well regarded at the time, but does not have much appeal to the modern reader. Killaha is six miles from Killarney, approximately one mile before Glenflesk, on the right-hand side.
