Hungary,officially in English the Republic of Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe, bordered by Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia.
Language
The official language of the country is Hungarian, but lot of Hungarians speak English and/or German. Most of the religious people are Roman Catholic, about a quarter are Reformed (Calvinist) and less than 10% are Evangelical (Lutheran), 5% belonging to other religions. The Hungarian state is a parliamentary democracy.
Geography
Hungary's area is 93,000 sq km's with a population of 10 Million. The capital of the country is Budapest with 2 Million inhabitants and the notion of a large city. 90% of the population belongs to the majority. Major minoritities include Romas, Germans, Slovaks and Romanians.
Economy
Hungary continues to demonstrate economic growth as one of the newest member countries of the European Union (since 2004). Hungary has been a member of the European Union since 2004. The country's major industries are mining, metallurgy & agriculture, construction materials, processed foods, textiles, chemicals (especially pharmaceuticals) and motor vehicles. Major trading partners are Germany, Austria, Italy and Russia. Economic growth is above 4% for the past years mainly due to the dynamic expansion of export.
Culture
Hungary is a country in Eastern Europe filled with a unique culture. The culture of Hungary is very different from its neighbors. That's because the very first Hungarians came from a long way away.
Hungary is fast changing from a dim Soviet satellite to a free thinking-free enterprise nation of progress. Included in this shift are new laws protecting homosexuals. A week in the Budapest to see the gay sites, attend the international ILGA conference and talk with some LGBT folks provided some images and insights into the new ways of modern gay Hungary.
The Music of Hungary consists mainly of traditional Hungarian folk music and music by prominent composers such as Franz Liszt, Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály. Hungarian cuisine is also a prominent feature of Hungarian culture, with traditional dishes such as goulash (gulyás or gulyásleves) a main feature of the Hungarian diet.
Hungarians are very proud of their inventions. These include the noiseless match (from János Irínyi), Rubik's cube, the krypton electric bulb [from Imre Bródy (1891-1944)], and the aforementioned non-Euclidian geometry.
