HOUSE OF MUSIC is a place for lively encounters with music that opens up new avenues to music in a playfully, interactive and academic way. The objective is to teach knowledge and understanding, openness and enthusiasm for music. The goals is also to create an atmosphere where visitors feel comfortable and can identify with the museum, as well as to offer young artists, new projects and creative people a platform for events and performances.

Four Austrian universities, two university institutes abroad, a young team of musicians and musicologists, artists from multimedia and other areas, sound engineers, architects, students and “some crazy minds” were, and still are, involved in the creation and development of HOUSE OF MUSIC.

Thanks to its aesthetic and artistic presentation of musicology content and its architecture, which combines the historical together with futuristic design and high-tech, HAUS DER MUSIK links tradition and innovation. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart meets young people who “compose“ their own CD, the Vienna Philharmonic encounters the orchestra our visitors create themselves.

House Of Music is a working museum. It has its own programme of events for children and adults and is a platform for cultural events in co-operation with its partners.
