The market Sainte Claire was built in 1874 on the site of a convent of Clarisses, in the middle of the old workings of Grenoble, near the Notre-Dame place and of the old College of Jesuits, current International Lycée Stendhal. The places bear the name of Holy Claire, protective of the convent.

The market Sainte Claire found her original aspect at the time of the last restoration of 1990. It is characteristic of the architecture of the markets hall which essaimé on all the French territory during second half of the XIX ème century. It is especially a place of meeting, of exchange, an alive place; each market day is testimony.
