Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport – Heraklion, Greece or Heraklion International Airport, "Nikos Kazantzakis" (Greek: Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Ηρακλείου, "Νίκος Καζαντζάκης") or Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport (IATA: HER, ICAO: LGIR) is the primary airport on the island of Crete, Greece. It is located about 5km from the main city of Heraklion. The airport is named after Heraklion native Nikos Kazantzakis, a Greek writer and philosopher.

Nikos Kazantzakis Airport serves Heraklion (Ηράκλειο), Aghios Nikolaos (Άγιος Νικόλαος), Malia (Mάλλια), Chersonissos (Χερσόνησος) and other resorts. It is Crete's main and busiest airport.
Passenger Information
It is often requested by airlines that passengers do not take any photographs or video of the runway. This is due to an Hellenic Air Force base which operates at the airport.
The departure lounge within the airport has a main stairway with an uneven and large bottom step, causing many passengers to trip whilst going upstairs. This could be considered a health and safety risk, but the amusement from watching unsuspecting people trip and fall passes the time whilst awaiting departure.
