GALATA TOWER is the oldest tower in the world history which has been a sembol of Istanbul for hundreds of years. It was constructed by Jusinianus (528) in 6th century to monitor the harbours. This outstanding structure was controlled by Genoese during 13th century. Turks took the control of the tower in 1453 when Fatih Sultan Mehmet conquered Istanbul. Under Turks it was firstly used as prison and ship store. In 18th century, it was used as fire observatory tower. In 17th century, HEZARFEN AHMET CELEBI, the first flying man in the world, put wings in his arms and flied 2 km to Usküdar. Tower is 60m. from base and 140m. from sea level and width of first seven layer of wall is 3,75m. and diameter is 8m. Galata Tower was seriously restored in 1968 without no change in external walls. Today there is an sight can be seen : Beyoglu - Istanbul Bosphorus - Marmara Sea - Halic Old Istanbul and its wonderful mosques : you may experience the privilege of seeing extraordinary colors of turning from red to blue and to dark blue above Eyüp Mosque during the sun set. Galata Tower is open from 09:00 to 19:00 for visit and 9th flat serves as restaurant and cafeteria. At nigth, you can see nigth panorama of Istanbul, while you taste delicious foods prepared with traditional disipline of the Tower and sip you drinks. In addition, you can enjoy authentic Turkish Show, Harem entertainments in old Ottoman houses, beautiful dancers, rich folklore dancing of Anatolia, various shows and oppurtunity of dancing at the roof of Istanbul.
