This bridge was built in the early 1900s, not long before the construction of the Clontarf and Brian Boru Bridges. Donovan's Bridge is elegantly constructed of limestone and boasts an arch span of sixty feet. It was designed by W. H. Hill and Son, engineers in the city at the time, and part of a company that still operates on the South Mall today. On 7th May, 1902, the new bridge, decorated with flags and banners, was opened by His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught, Commander of the Crown Forces in Ireland.
