Started in 1770, Cork's butter exchange became the largest exporter of salted butter in the world, exporting around 500,000 casks of the stuff each year by 1892. The exchange closed in 1924, and it now houses the Shandon Craft Centre and the Firkin Crane Centre, a hot venue for contemporary dance performances.
