Blandy's Wine Lodge Right in the centre of the city, huge doors lead into a fragrant courtyard where there are two tasting rooms, the "ordinary" one where 5-year or younger Madeira is offered to visitors at no charge, or the magnificent vintage tasting room where the rarer and more expensive wines are available.

Save your tastings for after the 4.20 Euro tour of the lodge. You may expect it to be a simulation - it's not! It's a working lodge where real wine is being aged by natural heat on three floors. An amusing and very knowledgeable guide will lead you through the parts of the building not open to the public, and as you go, they explain how the wine is made and what types are available. At the end of the tour you will return to the tasting room where the tour started, and try several different wines. After that, you're off to the vintage room where you can sample 1969  and other older wine
