The train from Palma to Soller (and then onto Soller Port) is an old tram-style wooden train. Whilst the route does take in some of the best views on the island you may find that the flat wooden seats are slightly uncomfortable for the hour(-ish) ride. We had been warned that the seats were hard and took our towels along with us to sit on, cushions not being high on our holiday packing list!! The wasn't any commentary on our trains although it did seem as though the trains had been wired for a commentary system.
The main journey from Palma to Soller is €14 and the onward journey from Soller to Port Soller is at an additional cost of €2, which is also excellent value considering it takes you to one of the most unspoilt coastal villages in Majorca.
The main journey from Palma to Soller is a fascinating ride through the islands most beautiful valley. The 10.40 train even stops for a photo opportunity, although this does tend to be the most crowded train. The other trains are just as easy to take excellent photos of views from and it made some of our snaps look even more exciting - the blurred trees in the foreground etc. But don't be fooled that this is the only way to get great views from around Majorca
Directions: Trains leave from Placa de Espana which is a 10 min walk from Palma Old Town and where there are also many bus stops for other trips. Handy Tip - Go to the loo before embarking on the train, there aren't any on there .
